Abstract

The social and emotional ex pression impairments of children with autism have become a globally significant issue, and art therapy, as a non-verbal intervention approach, offers a new avenue for improving their psychological states and behavioral capabilities. This study aims to evaluate the effects of art therapy on children with autism and to explore its feasibility and limitations in practical applications. A sample of 60 autistic children aged 3 to 12 was selected, utilizing a quasi-experimental design that incorporated multimodal art forms such as drawing, music, and drama over a six-month intervention period. Data collection involved standardized scale assessments, behavioral observation records, and parental interviews. The results indicate that children participating in art therapy demonstrated significant improvements in emotion regulation, social interaction, and self-ex pression, with intervention effects showing sustainability. Additionally, the study found that art therapy effectively reduced anxiety levels and promoted positive interactions with the environment. Innovatively integrating multiple art modalities, this research proposes an adaptive fr amework for art therapy based on individual needs, providing theoretical support for future practice. The conclusion emphasizes that art therapy serves not only as an auxiliary intervention tool but also as a critical component of a comprehensive rehabilitation system for children with autism, highlighting its substantial clinical and educational value.
