Innovation in Teaching Content and Methods for Secondary School Physical Education Based on Core Competencies

Abstract:With the deepening of educational reform, core competencies have become an important orientation for physical education in secondary schools, emphasizing the promotion of students' overall development through sports activities. However, traditional physical education content and methods suffer from issues such as singularity and mechanization, making it difficult to meet the requirements of cultivating core competencies. This study aims to explore innovative approaches to the content and methods of secondary school physical education based on the concept of core competencies, thereby enhancing students' physical fitness, athletic skills, and comprehensive abilities. By employing literature analysis, questionnaire surveys, and case studies, the current state of physical education in secondary schools was systematically reviewed, and specific improvement strategies were proposed by drawing on advanced domestic and international experiences. The results indicate that optimizing curriculum design, introducing diversified teaching methods, and enhancing the integration of practicality and interest can significantly increase students' learning motivation and participation while effectively promoting their core competency development. The innovation of this study lies in integrating the concept of core competencies into the entire process of physical education, constructing a dynamic teaching model centered on students, providing theoretical support and practical references for secondary school physical education reform, and playing a significant role in advancing quality-oriented education.
