Abstract
English drama, as a synthesis of literature and performing arts, has long been an important area of academic research, particularly in terms of character creation and performance art. This study focuses on the core aspect of character creation in English drama, exploring the role and significance of performance art in the presentation of drama, with the aim of revealing the interactive relationship between character creation and performance and their impact on audience experience. By employing a combination of literature analysis and case studies, this research selects works by classic playwrights such as Shakespeare and Ibsen as samples to conduct an in-depth analysis of the artistic techniques of character creation and their transformation process in stage performances. Additionally, the study incorporates contemporary performance theory to compare the differences between traditional and modern performance styles, further explaining how performance art endows characters with vitality and depth. The findings indicate that character creation not only relies on textual composition but also requires actors to engage in secondary creation through body language, tone of voice, and emotional ex pression, thereby achieving the transformation from text to stage. A key innovation of this study lies in examining character creation and performance art within a cross-cultural context, revealing the diversity of performance styles across different cultural backgrounds and their influence on character interpretation. This research provides a new perspective for understanding the artistic value of English drama, offers theoretical support for performance practice, and underscores the critical role of performers in the creation of drama.
