摘要
英语诗歌作为语言艺术的重要载体，其隐喻与象征手法的运用对深化主题表达和丰富文学内涵具有不可替代的作用。本研究基于认知语言学和文学理论的双重视角，探讨了英语诗歌中隐喻与象征的艺术特征及其文化意义，旨在揭示这两种修辞手法在诗歌创作中的功能机制。研究以18至20世纪的代表性英语诗歌为语料，采用定性分析与文本细读相结合的方法，从语言形式、文化背景及读者接受三个维度展开系统考察。结果表明，隐喻通过概念映射将抽象情感具象化，而象征则借助重复性和多义性构建深层意义网络，二者共同作用于诗歌的意义生成过程。此外，本研究发现不同历史时期的诗歌在隐喻与象征的使用上呈现出显著的时代特征，反映了社会变迁对文学创作的影响。创新点在于将认知科学的理论框架引入传统文学研究，为理解英语诗歌提供了新的分析路径。这一研究不仅拓展了隐喻与象征的研究范畴，还为跨文化交流中的诗歌解读提供了理论支持，有助于深化对英语诗歌美学价值的认识。

Abstract
English poetry, as an important vehicle of linguistic art, plays an irreplaceable role in deepening thematic ex pression and enriching literary connotations through the use of me taphor and symbolism. This study, from the dual perspectives of cognitive linguistics and literary theory, investigates the artistic characteristics and cultural significance of me taphor and symbolism in English poetry, aiming to reveal the functional mechanisms of these two rhetorical devices in poetic creation. Drawing on representative English poems from the 18th to the 20th centuries as data, the study employs a combination of qualitative analysis and close reading, examining the subject matter systematically from three dimensions: linguistic form, cultural context, and reader reception. The findings indicate that me taphor concretizes abstract emotions through conceptual mapping, while symbolism constructs a network of deeper meanings via repetitiveness and polysemy; both jointly contribute to the process of meaning generation in poetry. Additionally, this research reveals that the use of me taphor and symbolism in poetry from different historical periods exhibits distinct era-specific features, reflecting the impact of social changes on literary creation. The innovation of this study lies in integrating the theoretical fr amework of cognitive science into traditional literary research, providing a new analytical approach to understanding English poetry. This research not only broadens the scope of studies on me taphor and symbolism but also offers theoretical support for interpreting poetry in cross-cultural exchanges, thereby enhancing the appreciation of the aesthetic value of English poetry.
