Abstract
As an integral part of traditional Chinese literature and theatrical art, the study of narrative art in Ming and Qing dynasty legendary operas is of great significance for understanding ancient cultural modes of ex pression and the development trajectory of drama. This research focuses on the unique characteristics of narrative structure, character portrayal, and emotional ex pression in these operas, aiming to reveal the innovations and achievements in narrative art during this period. By combining documentary analysis with close reading, the study systematically examines the narrative features and evolutionary process of Ming and Qing legendary operas while considering their social functions and cultural implications within a historical context. The findings indicate that these operas transcend traditional linear narrative patterns, forming a distinctive structure characterized by interwoven storylines and temporal-spatial intersections. Additionally, they emphasize the depiction of characters' inner worlds, adding greater depth and complexity to roles. Moreover, it is discovered that the language of these operas achieves a subtle balance between lyricism and narration, enhancing artistic appeal. A key innovation of this research lies in its pioneering application of narratology theory to the study of Ming and Qing legendary operas, analyzing their narrative mechanisms from both macroscopic and microscopic perspectives. This not only enriches the theoretical fr amework of opera narrative studies but also provides a new angle for reassessing the literary value of Ming and Qing operatic works. The final conclusion demonstrates that the narrative art of Ming and Qing legendary operas represents not only a pinnacle of literary creation but also a significant embodiment of ancient Chinese dramatic aesthetics, offering valuable insights for contemporary theatrical production.
