STUDY ON NON-DRUG INTERVENTION OF JOINT DISEASES IN ELDERLY DOGS

ABSTRACT

With the increasing aging of pets, the incidence of joint diseases in elderly dogs has increased significantly, which has become an important factor affecting their quality of life. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy and feasibility of non-drug interventions for joint diseases in elderly dogs. Through systematic literature review and experimental research, combined with the clinical data of some urban pet hospitals in China, 100 elderly dogs with different degrees of joint diseases were selected as research ob jects. The study used a multicenter randomized controlled trial design to implement four non-drug interventions, including physical therapy, nutritional supplementation, environmental modification and behavioral training. The results showed that physical therapy and nutritional supplementation significantly improved joint function and quality of life in dogs, with pain scores decreased by 35% in the physical therapy group and exercise capacity increased by 28% in the nutritional supplement group. In addition, although environmental modification and behavioral training had limited short-term symptom relief, long-term observations showed that they helped maintain daily activity levels in dogs. The innovation of this study is that for the first time, multiple non-drug interventions were systematically integrated and the effectiveness of their combined application was verified through a large sample clinical trial. Studies have shown that non-drug intervention can not only effectively alleviate the symptoms of joint diseases in elderly dogs, but also significantly improve their quality of life, providing a new idea and basis for clinical practice.
