Abstract
This paper makes a comprehensive analysis of Shen Congwen's masterpiece Border Town, and probes into his desc ription of pastoral poetry and painting, the display of human brilliance, the depth of literary and philosophical thinking, as well as his artistic achievements and long-term influence. This paper deeply explores the literary and philosophical reflections contained in Border Town, including the utopian ideal of pastoral life, the complexity and multifaceted nature of human nature, the meaning and value of life, and the dialogue between traditional and modern values. These thoughts not only enrich the connotation of the work, but also provide a profound inspiration to the modern society. In terms of artistic achievements, the article points out the innovations in the narrative structure of Border Town, such as the use of multi-thread narrative and the skills of time and space transformation. At the same time, the depth of character shaping, the charm of literary language, and the influence on the later literature are deeply discussed, especially the influence on modern literature and the realistic significance of Shen Congwen's works in the contemporary society. This paper holds that Border Town is not only a masterpiece depicting pastoral poetry and painting and showing the brilliance of human nature, but also a literary work containing profound literary and philosophical thinking.
