ABSTRACT
Old urban areas, as significant carriers of urban history and culture, are increasingly facing prominent transportation issues that constrain urban development and the improvement of residents' quality of life. This study focuses on the renovation and upgrading of transportation in old urban areas, aiming to explore adaptive planning strategies to alleviate traffic congestion, enhance travel experiences, and promote sustainable development. By systematically reviewing relevant domestic and international cases, complemented by field surveys and data analysis, this paper constructs a multi-dimensional evaluation system to diagnose the current state of transportation and potential problems in old urban areas. The research adopts a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, integrating GIS spatial analysis, traffic flow simulation, and investigations into residents' travel behavior to deeply analyze the contradictions between traffic supply and demand and their underlying causes. Based on these analyses, an upgrading fr amework centered on the concept of "micro-circulation" is proposed, emphasizing the improvement of road network structures through meticulous design, optimizing public transportation layouts, enhancing non-motorized transport systems, and introducing intelligent traffic management technologies to increase operational efficiency. The results indicate that the "micro-circulation" model can significantly reduce regional traffic pressure, improve the utilization rate of road resources, and enhance residents' satisfaction with the traffic environment. Furthermore, this study innovatively incorporates social equity into planning considerations, ensuring that renovation measures address the needs of different groups, thereby achieving a balance between economic benefits and social benefits. Overall, this study not only provides a highly operational planning approach for transportation upgrades in old urban areas but also expands theoretical and practical references for similar issues.
