ABSTRACT

With the increasingly severe global water scarcity and environmental pollution, the large amount of sludge generated during wastewater treatment has become a critical factor constraining sustainable development. This study aims to explore efficient and cost-effective sludge reduction technologies to alleviate the pressure of sludge treatment and disposal while minimizing environmental risks. By comprehensively analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of existing sludge reduction methods, an innovative technical approach based on bio-enhancement coupled with physicochemical synergistic effects is proposed. Specifically, the research employs an optimized microbial community structure in combination with ultrasound pre-treatment and chemical conditioning agents to improve sludge dewatering performance and enhance organic matter degradation efficiency. Experimental results demonstrate that this technology significantly reduces sludge moisture content, achieving over 60% volume reduction, and effectively enhances the potential for subsequent resource recovery. Additionally, a kinetic model for sludge reduction was established, providing theoretical support for the large-scale application of this technology. The primary contribution of this study lies in proposing a multi-method integrated strategy for sludge reduction, which not only achieves a balance between efficiency and cost-effectiveness in sludge treatment but also offers new insights into the green transformation of the wastewater treatment sector. The findings are of great significance for advancing sludge management technologies and realizing environmentally sustainable development goals.
