Clinical Application and Efficacy Evaluation of the Antidepressant Sertraline
Abstract
Depression is a common mental disorder that significantly impairs the quality of life and social functioning of patients. Sertraline, as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), holds an important position in clinical treatment. This study aimed to systematically evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of sertraline to provide evidence for optimizing treatment regimens. Through a retrospective analysis of clinical data from 300 patients with depression treated at a tertiary hospital between 2018 and 2023, the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD) and an adverse reaction assessment scale were used to evaluate efficacy and safety. The results showed that after 8 weeks of sertraline treatment, the HAMD scores of patients significantly decreased, with a total effective rate of 78.3%, and the onset time was shorter compared to traditional antidepressants. Meanwhile, the incidence of adverse reactions was low, primarily manifesting as mild gastrointestinal discomfort and insomnia, with no severe adverse events observed. The study demonstrated that sertraline exhibits good efficacy and high safety in the treatment of depression, and its rapid onset feature provides new insights for clinical practice, particularly for patient groups requiring quick symptom relief. This finding further enriches the theoretical basis for the application of sertraline and offers references for the development of personalized treatment strategies.
