Abstract

Canine and feline dermatological diseases are common and frequently occurring conditions in veterinary clinical practice, characterized by complex etiology, prolonged disease course, and a tendency to recur. Traditional单一 treatments using either Western medicine or Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) have certain limitations. This study aimed to explore the effectiveness and feasibility of an integrated TCM-Western medicine approach for treating dermatological diseases in dogs and cats, providing new insights for clinical practice. A total of 200 cases of canine and feline dermatological diseases were selected and assigned to three groups using a randomized controlled trial design: Western medicine group, TCM group, and integrated TCM-Western medicine group. The respective treatments included conventional Western medicine, internal and external administration of TCM, and an integrated therapy combining both approaches. Over a 12-week follow-up period, the cure rate, recurrence rate, and incidence of adverse reactions were recorded for each group, with treatment efficacy further evaluated through skin histopathological examinations and blood biochemical indicators. The results demonstrated that the integrated TCM-Western medicine group achieved a significantly higher cure rate of 85%, compared to 65% in the Western medicine group and 70% in the TCM group. Additionally, this group exhibited the lowest recurrence rate (10%) and adverse reaction incidence (5%). Furthermore, the integrated therapy showed a marked advantage in improving skin histopathological features and modulating systemic immune function. This study innovatively proposed a comprehensive treatment protocol based on the integration of syndrome differentiation treatment and modern medicine, which not only enhanced therapeutic outcomes but also minimized drug side effects, offering new theoretical foundations and technical support for the treatment of canine and feline dermatological diseases, with significant clinical application value and potential for widespread adoption.
