Mirror Feedback Therapy for Correcting Gait Symmetry in Stroke Hemiplegia Patients 

Abstract
Gait symmetry impairment is commonly observed in hemiplegic patients after stroke, which severely affects their motor function and quality of life. However, traditional rehabilitation training has limitations in improving gait symmetry. This study aimed to investigate the corrective effects of mirror feedback therapy on gait symmetry in stroke-induced hemiplegic patients and its potential mechanisms. A total of 60 hemiplegic patients post-stroke were randomly divided into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group received mirror feedback therapy combined with conventional rehabilitation training, while the control group only underwent conventional rehabilitation training, with an intervention period of 12 weeks. Patients' gait parameters, including stride length, walking speed, and stance phase time ratio, were assessed using a three-dimensional gait analysis system, and functional walking ability was evaluated using the Functional Walking Scale (FWS). The results showed that the experimental group significantly outperformed the control group in terms of stride length difference, stance phase time ratio, and walking speed (P0.05), with a more pronounced increase in FWS scores. These findings indicate that mirror feedback therapy can effectively improve gait symmetry in hemiplegic patients after stroke. Its innovation lies in the synergistic use of visual feedback and motor control, promoting active participation of the affected limb and neural plasticity reconstruction, thus providing a new approach for gait rehabilitation in stroke patients.
