Abstract
With the rapid development of digital technology, the integration of multimedia elements in digital publications has become a crucial approach to enhancing reading experiences. This study aims to explore the current application status of multimedia elements in digital publications and their impact mechanisms on readers' reading experiences, with the goal of providing theoretical foundations and practical guidance for optimizing digital publication design. Employing a mixed-methods research approach, this study systematically investigates the integration effects of text, images, audio, and video elements on readers' cognitive load, emotional engagement, and information acquisition efficiency through literature analysis, questionnaire surveys, and eye-tracking experiments. The findings reveal that moderate integration of multimedia elements significantly enhances readers' immersion and information comprehension, while excessive use may lead to increased cognitive load and attention dispersion. Specifically, the text-image combination mode proves most effective for knowledge transfer, whereas appropriate embedding of audio-visual elements effectively strengthens emotional resonance. The study also identifies significant differences in the acceptance of multimedia elements among readers of different age groups and educational backgrounds, with younger audiences showing a preference for highly interactive multimedia presentations. Based on empirical findings, this research proposes two principles: "moderate integration" and "hierarchical design," offering an innovative fr amework for content creation in digital publications. The theoretical contribution lies in constructing a quantitative relationship model between multimedia elements and reading experiences, while the practical significance is reflected in providing actionable content production guidelines for publishing institutions. The conclusions not only enrich the theoretical foundation in the field of digital publishing but also offer new perspectives and methodological references for future cross-media integration research.
