INFLUENCE OF LIGHT MANAGEMENT ON EGG PRODUCTION RATE DURING THE BREEDING SEASON OF GEESE

ABSTRACT

Light management during the breeding period is one of the critical factors affecting the egg-laying rate of geese, yet existing studies lack a systematic exploration of the specific mechanisms underlying different lighting regimens. This study aims to analyze the effects of photoperiod, light intensity, and wavelength on the egg-laying performance of geese through a scientifically designed experimental protocol, providing theoretical support for optimizing farming practices. A total of 300 healthy adult geese were randomly divided into five groups and subjected to different lighting treatments under identical rearing conditions, including natural lighting, extended photoperiod, increased light intensity, altered spectral wavelength, and a control group. Over a 12-week monitoring and data analysis period, the results demonstrated that moderately extending the photoperiod (to 14 hours per day) and adjusting the spectral wavelength (using full-spectrum light sources mimicking natural light) significantly enhanced the egg-laying rate of geese. In contrast, increasing light intensity alone did not produce noticeable effects. Additionally, excessively long photoperiods were found to induce stress responses in geese, leading to a decline in egg-laying performance. This study innovatively incorporates the variable of spectral wavelength and integrates behavioral observations, elucidating the regulatory mechanisms by which lighting conditions influence the physiological rhythms and reproductive hormone secretion of geese. These findings offer new insights into precision-based light management strategies and hold significant practical implications for improving the productivity and economic benefits of goose breeding.
