Abstract
Project change management is a key link in project management, which has a profound impact on the cost, schedule and quality of the project. This paper deeply discusses the specific impact of project change management on cost, and analyzes the reasons behind it and countermeasures. In the process of project implementation, engineering changes are almost unavoidable due to many factors such as design adjustment, construction conditions change and market demand change. However, unreasonable change management often leads to a significant increase in project costs. First, engineering changes may directly lead to an increase in direct costs such as additional engineering volumes, material costs, and labor costs. For example, design changes may require the use of higher standard materials or make construction more difficult, thus increasing construction costs. Secondly, engineering changes may also lead to an increase in indirect costs, such as idle resources caused by construction delays and additional costs caused by rescheduling construction plans. In addition, engineering changes may also increase the risk cost of the project, such as technical problems, quality problems or safety hazards caused by the change, which require additional resources to solve. In view of these effects of engineering change on cost, this paper puts forward corresponding management strategies. First of all, a strict change approval process should be established to ensure the rationality and necessity of changes and avoid unnecessary changes. Second, strengthen the communication and coordination of all parties to the project, ensure the smooth flow of information, and timely discover and solve the problems caused by changes. At the same time, a sound cost management system should be established to analyze and compare the cost before and after the change in detail, so as to adjust the budget and plan in time. In addition, attention should be paid to improving the professionalism and adaptability of project managers to better cope with the challenges brought by engineering changes. Project change management has an important impact on cost. In order to effectively control the project cost, it is necessary to strengthen the management of engineering changes, and minimize the negative impact of engineering changes on costs by means of reasonable approval process, effective communication and coordination, and perfect cost management system.
