Abstract: This article studies the reasons and policy recommendations for the regional economic development gap. Firstly, it introduces the research background and significance, as well as the research purpose and content. Secondly, it outlines the definition and connotation of regional economic development, as well as the manifestations and influencing factors of regional economic development disparities. Subsequently, a detailed analysis was conducted on the impact of natural factors, historical and institutional factors, economic structure, and industrial layout on regional economic development disparities. Finally, policy recommendations were put forward to promote infrastructure construction and regional transportation connectivity, optimize industrial structure and promote industrial agglomeration development, and strengthen education and human resource development. Through research, it has been found that the reasons for regional economic development disparities are multifaceted, including natural conditions, historical and institutional factors, economic structure, and industrial layout. Therefore, comprehensive policy measures are needed to narrow the gap in regional economic development.
