Abstract
Son and Lover as D H. Lawrence's classic novel deeply explores the complex interactions between family relationships, individual growth, and emotional entanglements. This article first elaborates on the research background and significance, points out the importance of exploring the work for understanding interpersonal relationships and the depth of human nature, and introduces the research purpose, methods, and current research status at home and abroad. Subsequently, a brief introduction was given to the background of the work and the author D H. Lawrence's life, sorting out the main plot of the novel, analyzing its thematic ideas and unique literary characteristics. The core part of the article focuses on the family relationships in "Son and Lover", including the tension and conflict of the father son relationship, the attachment and distortion of the mother son relationship, and the competition and alienation of the brotherly relationship. It deeply analyzes how these relationships affect the personality formation, emotional development, and life choices of the protagonist Paul. Especially the psychological barriers between father and son, the excessive dependence between mother and son, and the estrangement between brothers all had a profound impact on Paul's individual growth. In addition, the article also explores Paul's conflicts and contradictions in his views on love, his emotional entanglements between Miriam and Clara, and how these emotional entanglements reflect and affect his psychological state, interpersonal relationships, and life trajectory.
