Abstract
"The Peony Pavilion" is one of the representative works of the Ming Dynasty writer Tang Xianzu, exploring the life story of the famous painter Yan Liben in the early Qing Dynasty. The work depicts the protagonist Yan Liben's experiences and struggles in officialdom, family, and artistic creation, reflecting the author's thoughts and reflections on feudal ethics, women's status, and cultural inheritance. This article discusses the modern consciousness and cultural value of "The Peony Pavilion" from two aspects. From the perspective of modern consciousness, this article elaborates on the criticism of feudal ethics, the awakening of women's consciousness, and the relationship between rulers and the ruled revealed in the work, exploring the forms of ex pression and cultural connotations of these modern issues in the work. From the perspective of cultural value, this article discusses the value of the work in terms of its ideological and artistic aspects, pointing out its inheritance and innovation of traditional culture, its influence on literary style and aesthetic standards, and other aspects. In conclusion, "The Peony Pavilion" is a literary masterpiece with modern consciousness and cultural value. Its reflection and inheritance of Chinese traditional culture, as well as its pursuit of self-consciousness and diversity in literary art, have important implications and inspirations.
