Communication and Collaboration Patterns in Software Development Teams Based on the Scrum fr amework

Abstract: With the widespread adoption of agile methodologies in the software industry, the Scrum fr amework has garnered significant attention due to its efficient project management capabilities. This study investigates communication and collaboration patterns within software development teams under the Scrum fr amework, aiming to elucidate their underlying mechanisms and optimize team effectiveness. Contemporary software projects face challenges such as frequent requirement changes and compressed delivery cycles, which traditional development models struggle to address, while existing research lacks sufficient empirical analysis of communication dynamics in Scrum teams. Employing a mixed-methods approach combining case studies and questionnaire surveys, this research conducted a six-month longitudinal observation of twelve Scrum-adopting software development teams, collecting communication data from key ceremonies including daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives. Social network analysis and content analysis were applied to quantitatively assess team interaction patterns. Findings reveal that the Scrum fr amework constructs multidimensional communication networks through its characteristic ceremonies: daily stand-ups enhance information symmetry (37.2% improvement in information-sharing efficiency), sprint reviews strengthen cross-functional collaboration (54.6% increase in inter-departmental communication frequency), while retrospectives significantly improve team self-organization capabilities (42.8% enhancement in problem-solving efficiency). The study innovatively proposes a "Three-Dimensional Communication Density Model" that quantitatively evaluates team collaboration effectiveness across information flow, relational networks, and knowledge transformation dimensions, with empirical validation demonstrating strong predictive power for team performance (R²=0.82). Additionally, research identifies a nonlinear correlation between Scrum Masters' communication coordination skills and team effectiveness (r=0.73, p0.01), revealing an optimal intervention range. The primary contributions include establishing a quantitative assessment system for Scrum team communication quality, uncovering the cognitive synchronization function of ceremonial activities, and providing an actionable improvement fr amework for agile team building.
