Cultural analysis of Banshees in Journey to the West
Abstract
This paper takes the banshee image in Journey to the West as the research ob ject, aiming to reveal the multiple meanings of the banshee image in literature, culture and society through in-depth analysis of its appearance characteristics, abilities, emotions, social status and role. The article first summarizes the basic characteristics of Banshees, including their diversified appearance, extraordinary ability, complex and changeable character and emotion, and unique social status and role positioning. Then, the article further discusses the symbolic meaning of the banshee image, involving gender concepts, moral norms, religious beliefs and social order, and shows the profound connotation of the banshee image in the traditional culture. The article also examines the influence and evolution of banshee image in later literary works, folk beliefs and legends, and modern culture, pointing out that as an important element of literature and culture, Banshee image not only enriches the subject matter and technique of literary creation, but also profoundly influences the formation and development of social culture.
