Abstract 
As the cornerstone of efficient communication, computer network protocol plays an important role in the information society. With the continuous progress of network technology, the design and application of computer network protocols are becoming more and more complex and diversified to meet the increasing communication needs. This paper discusses the design and application of computer network protocol in efficient communication, analyzes how to optimize network performance and improve data transmission efficiency, and discusses the development trend of protocol design in the future. In the design of computer network protocol, the key is to ensure the reliable transmission of data, the effective use of network resources and the security of communication process. The design of the protocol should take into account the hierarchical structure of the network, the reliability of data transmission, the congestion control mechanism and security. Through reasonable protocol design, it can realize fast and accurate transmission of network data, reduce data loss and transmission delay, and improve the communication efficiency of the whole network. In the application of computer network protocol, it is widely used in various network scenarios and communication needs. For example, in the Internet, the TCP/IP protocol family, as the basic communication protocol, realizes the interconnection between different networks and supports various network applications and services. In the local area network (LAN), Ethernet protocol has become the most mainstream LAN communication technology because of its efficient data transmission capability and wide compatibility.
