Hugo, with his outstanding literary talent, has created numerous vivid and complex character images, among which the character of Jean Valjean is the most deeply ingrained. Victor Hugo, a representative figure of 19th century French romantic literature, has won widespread acclaim worldwide for his outstanding literary achievements and profound social insights. His works are full of profound reflections on human nature, society, and history. The novel revolves around Jean Valjean's tragic experiences and the path of redemption, depicting his struggles and growth in the face of social injustice and suffering. Through the stories of Jean Valjean and Bishop Myriel, Fantine, Cosette, and others, it showcases the kindness, tolerance, and sacrifice of human nature, while also revealing deep-seated issues such as social class injustice and the boundary between law and morality.
