Abstract:As a masterpiece of the Northern Song Dynasty, A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains demonstrates the spatial narrative and visual logic of traditional Chinese landscape painting through its grand composition and intricate details. This study takes the painting as its core ob ject, integrating methodologies from art history, spatial theory, and visual culture analysis to explore its unique mechanisms in spatial construction and viewer interaction. The research context is rooted in the transformation of Song dynasty painting from court aesthetics to diversified ex pression, as well as the traditional pursuit of the concept of "traversable, observable, explorable, and habitable" landscapes. Through meticulous formal analysis and an interdisciplinary perspective, this paper reveals how A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains employs techniques such as scattered perspective, layered arrangement, and dynamic path design to create a spatial experience that conforms to natural laws while transcending reality. The findings indicate that the work not only reflects Song painters' understanding of cosmic order but also achieves immersive viewer participation through sophisticated visual guidance. An innovation of this study lies in its introduction of modern spatial narrative theory into the analysis of traditional landscape painting, proposing the concept of "flowing visual field" to interpret the interwoven relationship between time and space within the painting. This research provides a new perspective for understanding spatial concepts in ancient Chinese art and deepens the cognition of the visual logic in traditional painting, laying a foundation for further exploration in related fields.
