Exploring an Innovative Model of Integrating Nutrition Education into Cooking Instruction

Abstract

With the increasing societal focus on healthy eating, cooking instruction, as a critical bridge connecting food preparation and nutritional knowledge, urgently requires innovative educational models to meet modern demands. This study aims to explore an innovative approach that integrates nutritional education into cooking instruction, enhancing learners' nutritional awareness and cooking skills through systematic design and practical validation. A mixed-methods design was employed, combining literature analysis, questionnaire surveys, and action research, with a selected university cooking course serving as the experimental context. A teaching fr amework was developed, encompassing theoretical explanation, interactive experiences, and practical operations. Specifically, this model employs techniques such as scenario simulation, case analysis, and personalized feedback to guide students in mastering cooking techniques while understanding the principles of nutrition and applying them to real-life situations. The results indicate that, compared to traditional teaching methods, the new model significantly improves students' levels of nutritional knowledge and their willingness to adopt healthy eating behaviors, while also increasing their interest in and engagement with cooking activities. Additionally, the study finds that this integrated teaching approach effectively fosters interdisciplinary thinking, enabling students to achieve knowledge transfer and comprehensive application in practice. The primary contribution of this research lies in proposing a replicable and scalable pathway for integrating nutritional education into cooking instruction, providing a reference model for pedagogical reforms in related fields. This innovative approach not only enriches the content of cooking education but also opens new avenues for promoting overall public health literacy.
