The Impact of Parenting Styles on the Social Development of Young Children
Abstract
  Parenting styles have a profound impact on the social development of young children, making this topic a focal point in the field of child developmental psychology. This study aims to explore the relationship between different parenting styles and the social development of young children while uncovering the underlying mechanisms. Addressing gaps in existing literature, this research innovatively incorporates a dynamic assessment model, employing a combination of questionnaires, behavioral observations, and in-depth interviews to conduct a one-year longitudinal study involving 300 children aged 3 to 6 years and their families. The findings indicate that authoritative parenting significantly enhances children's social adaptability, emotional regulation skills, and peer interaction abilities, whereas authoritarian and permissive parenting styles are substantially associated with negative outcomes in children's social development. Additionally, the study reveals that parental emotional sensitivity and the quality of parent-child interactions play crucial mediating roles between parenting styles and children's social development. A primary contribution of this research is the systematic validation of the long-term effects of parenting styles on young children's social development, along with targeted family intervention recommendations. These findings not only provide theoretical support and empirical evidence for family education practices and policy formulation but also deepen the understanding of the role of family environments in the socialization process of young children. Furthermore, they offer new perspectives and strategies for promoting healthy social development in early childhood.
